When to move twin toddlers to big beds?

by Rasha
(J)

I have 21 months identical boys- twins, and lately they climb a lot on their cribs to get out.. I'm thinking about moving them into big beds, although I know they are not ready, and I have no idea how I'm going to convince them 2 stay in their big beds while they will have more chance 2 move around since it's not a crib.. they are used to sleeping on their own, I put them in bed at 7:30, they play in their cribs and fall asleep on their own, but with the big beds I can't imagine what will happen..

Can you please help me with some ideas, what can I do?? I don't want them to fall from their cribs and get injured, please help me.

BTW, one of the twins climbed on the table and fell, and got 5 stitches on his forehead, and that makes me worry more! I would appreciate your ideas and experiences in this topic, thanks a million!

Hi,
I live in USA. I have bought low beds for my kids.. These are almost at no height from he ground.. So they are big beds still no fear of falling down and getting injured .. :)

Toddler Beds
by: Kristin

We transitioned our girls to toddler beds at 15.5 months because we were worried about them climbing out of their cribs. The transition was tough for the first couple of weeks but it has worked out perfect. Most nights and naps our girls crawl into bed with each other (which is OK with us and we just leave them there). They are almost 17 months and are sleeping much better now then they ever did in their cribs.

We bought toddler beds from Babies R Us that use the crib mattress and are low to the ground. Our girls love that they can get into and out of bed all by themselves.

We have a baby gate in the doorway so that they can't get out of their room during sleep times and it had worked out just fine.

Baby Bed to Toddler Bed- My Boy/Girl Twins
by: Anonymous

I moved my twins into there toddler beds when they were about 18 months because I was afraid that they would start climbing out of their crib and get hurt. I bought them ready cute toddler beds from IKEA. They are wider than a baby bed and longer but low to the ground with rounded egdes. My daughter has not figured out how to open the plastic covers that you can put on the door knobs so we use that in her room to keep her from running around at night. With my son we installed a pressure mounted safety gate that is pretty tall. During the day we just take the gate off. It has worked out very well for us so far and they will turn 3 yrs in October. We live in a 2 story home and I shared many of your concerns.
I hope that this helps.
