when do the doctors set a date for a c-section with twins?

When did some of your doctors set a day for a c-section with your twins, like how far along were you when they set it up?

Don't understand!
by: Anonymous

I am 36 weeks with boy/girl twins who 2 weeks ago weighed 6 lbs and 6 lbs 10 oz! So I am guessing they are both in the 7 lb range by now. My doctor is insisting I go to 39 weeks for my c-section unless I go into labor or there is a problem beforehand. They are estimating that if I go to 39 weeks they babys will weigh between 8 and 9 lbs each!!! I am in complete and total misery already, I don't know how I am going to make it to 39 weeks. I can barely walk, the pressure on my pelvis is so bad, my back is in agony. I know they want the babies to be healthy and so do I, but doesn't anyone think of the mother?? I'd be happy if they just moved it up to 38 weeks. Just praying my water breaks so I can have some relief!

37 weeks
by: Sara

My doctor told me if I did not deliver before Oct 1st, then he would be inducing me that day. I was 37 weeks and 2 days with my fraternal boys. Noah was 6 lbs 9oz and Nathan was 5 lbs 2oz.

It really depends on the doctor sometimes. I was suppose to go vaginally, that was the plan , but I had an emergency c-section instead. Everything is good :)

Best of Luck!!

C-Section date
by: Brenda

My doctor wouldnt even consider scheduling a date until I went pass 35 weeks. Even then he wanted me to keep plugging along. At 37 weeks I told him I had enough and we scheduled it at 38 1/2 weeks. Dont rush things..the longer they stay in the womb the better off they are.

Play it by ear
by: Shelly Cunningham

Hi Eve,
I know that a twin pregnancy carries a lot of extra risks with it, but try to calm your fears by keeping in mind how many women have gone before you to have healthy babies.
My baby A was head down, but baby B was transverse (across my belly) after 34 weeks, so my doctor said she would be willing to try vaginal, but baby B may not cooperate. She really let me decide if I wanted a c-section or not. We were concerned that baby B was bigger & we might have baby A vaginally but have baby B via emergency c-section... so I opted for the c-section. My doctors scheduled my c-section tentatively for the 39 week mark. If I went into labor naturally before that, she said they would just do the c-section that day. I did go into labor earlier, at 37 weeks. My c-section & recovery could not have been more smooth. The boys were 4lbs.6oz. & 6lbs.13oz. They are now 18 months & healthy as can be!

C-section date
by: Jennifer

My Doctor would not set a schedules c- section date before 38 weeks, unless something was wrong, or the babies were in destress. I think every Doctor is a little different, but I do not think any Doctor would do a c-section before 37 weeks unless it was needed. I wanted to keep them in as long as possible,so they had the best chances to be healthy. I delivered them by scheduled c-section the day i turned 38 weeks and they were both a little under 6 pounds. And they went home with us 2 days later. Good luck, hope all is well, and you keep those babies in as long as possible.

Due date
by: Kristin

My OB wouldn't even discuss delivery options with me until after I reached and then passed 35 weeks. Had we delivered before 35 weeks, it would have automatically been a c-section for the safety of the babies. We decided on 38+2 weeks for a scheduled c-section (my choice even though both babies were head down). Neither of our girls spent any time in the NICU.
