What To Expect When You Find Out You're Expecting Twins

We just found out we are having Fraternal Twins!!!!
It will be my first children and it's been 10yrs since my soon-to-be wife had kids. We welcome all the advise you can give, we are clueless.

Well first off - CONGRATULATIONS ! How exciting - and probably a little scary too. Finding out you are having two babies is a big deal. Some of the things I suggest you do is -

The practical - start doing an inventory of what baby stuff you already have -cribs, high chairs, bouncy seats, changing tables etc. and what you are going to need. Talk to friends who may be finished having babies, look on ebay on at garage sales, and start stocking up on diapers now. Buy a bag every time you go shopping.

Research - make sure you have a good OB or midwife that you trust and who has experience with twin pregnancies and twin deliveries. Make sure that you are familar with the eating requirements for two babies and the signs of complications and preterm labor. One of the most important things to keep in mind is that twins often come prematurely - so you'll want to start NOW - don't wait getting ready.

The first year is tough - the first few months are particularly hard - you may want to see if a mother or mother in law or friend can help in the beginning - make arrangements if you can to be off work with your wife for as long as you can -

You'll want to think about sleeping arrangements, whether or not your twins will be bottle fed or breastfed, ( I recommend breastfeeding both for the health reasons and the cost savings !).

Find a good double stroller so that you guys can get out of the house with the babies and look at slings to carry them. You'll need two safe car seats to bring them home from the hospital - I may be stating the obvious but sometimes those babies arrive early and the parents haven't got the seats yet!
