Vanishing Twin Syndrome?

I am only 8 weeks pregnant with Twins and having been reading all of the the horrible stuff about a Vanishing Twin. I've read the odds are about 30% or higher that one twin will vanish. I am horrified!!! I lay awake wondering if at my next visit there will only be one baby. Does anybody know more about this?

You will hear a billion things that keep you up at night throughout your twin pregnancy. Keep your emotions intact as much as possible and be optimistic! Sometimes we only hear about difficult things, but I can tell you I had fears the whole time, and my twins (13mos) are sooo healthy, my pregnancy was fine, and labor and delivery was awesome--i wish this for all moms! Hopefully when you hear their hearts beat your mind will be more at ease!

I know how scary it is to read that, I found out at 12 weeks then that was one of the first things I read. I know it's scary but just try to not think about it. When you go to your next appointment I am sure there will still be 2 in there. Unfortunatly it does happen, but not to everybody. Keep the faith. Good luck.

Hi there! I too was terrified of this, and my OB gave me some great advice; stop reading about it online and pick up a great book. After 10-12 weeks there is litle chance of this happening,and if both babies have a strong heartbeat and are growing well, then you should be OK.

Just imagine all the other things we will have to worry about as parents, it is never ending. I think this is our first lesson in parenting. Hang in there!
