two babies in one sac - what does that mean?

by Vicki Tenberge

My daughter just had her ultrasound and they said there were three but that one doesn't show a heartbeat so they do not think it made it.

The other 2 are in the same sack. What does that mean. They said one is 2 days smaller than the other one. Thanks, Vicki

Twins in one sac - identical
by: Anonymous

My Daughter had identical twin boys i.e. in the same sac and one placenta however, their were two bubbles within the one sac meaning a slight membrane seperation so the risk of cord entanglement is not a risk. She also developed TTTS early in the pregnancy and safely gave birth at 35 weeks the smaller twin was delivered naturally and weighed 4 pound 4 ounces and stayed with mum - the second twin decided it was great having the extra room so did a twirl once he kicked his brother out and got stuck so was delivered by c section and was a pound heavier and ended up in the NCIU for four days. All the worrying we did about the little one was uncalled for. The larger twin was also fine - The hospital care for twins these days is fantastic and you are monitored all the way through the pregnancy - They very rarely let identical twins go longer than 36 weeks but fraternal twins they allow to go full term if no complications - Our twins are now gorgeous 8 month old twins and are truly a joy

Same Sac

If they are in the same sac that means they are MoMo twins aka Mono amniotic which is highly dangerous and have a 50/50 chance. The reason being is that they share the same placenta and same sac they can get tangled in each others umbilical cords and one can steal the nutrients from the other which is called TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome). They will also be identical twins. I highly recommend she sees a specialist of high risk pregnancies like a perinatologist.

There are MANY success stories with momo twins so don't be discouraged.

SAME SAC

IF THEY ARE FOR SURE IN THE SAME SAC IT MEANS THEY ARE IDENTICAL. IT ALSO MEANS SHE WILL BE CAREFULLY WATCHED FOR HER PREGNANCY, TWIN TO TWIN TRANSFUSION SYDNROME IS A CONCERN. ONE COULD TAKE EVERYTHING, LEAVING THE OTHER WITH NOTHING. IF THAT HAPPENS THEY WILL TAKE THE BABIES. WILL BE PRAYING FOR HER.
