raising twins

twin skin postpartum at 21 months

by Mrs. Ortiz
(E, CO, USA)

My 21 month old postpartum belly and twin daughters.

My 21 month old postpartum belly and twin daughters.

I found out I was pregnant when I was 20. It was with the love of my life, so we were excited, and afraid.

We found out it was twins at 9 weeks.

I went to 39 weeks, and had a c-cection after 36 hours of labor.

It is now 21 months after my twin pregnancy.

I have dieted, used creams, and done everything besides surgery to try to fix my stomach.

I love my babies, but hate my stomach. I am just 22 years old, and my body is ruined. I love that some women can be positive, but I just can't.

My boyfriend (my daughters father) is supportive, and still loves me, and still thinks im beautiful, but I just don't...

Before having children I would have never considered having surgery, but I really think that I may, if I can get the money together.

(Although it would only be if there is an abundance of $$ because my daughters and their needs will ALWAYS come first haha)

le sigh.

Rock what you've got
by: Cassia

I'm 22, I have four month old twin baby girls. They weighed 7'3 and 7'14 at birth. Doc broke my water 2 weeks early since i was a first time mom. Anyway I had a nice belly up until now. My belly button transformed from an extream inny to what now looks sort of like an ant eaters nose. my stomach is now herniated and pretty unatractive by most peoples standards. my strech marks look like flames. Regardless i'm not really considering surgery. sure it would be nice if we could all bounce back to normal afterward but its just not in the cards. Besides, feeling attractive is a state of mind and it makes me sad that our society has become so "PLASTIC" we are not meant to look like movie stars and super models forever... And who says you can't wear sexy clothing and swim suits. I'm married to a real Man who loves my shape and I don't care what other women and highschool boys think. :)hope this helps some one.

Ps. Tea Tree oil works wonders on strech marks

I feel yah

I understand how you feel. Its devastating to our self esteems and to go through all these changes so fast. I'm 3 months postpartum, I had identical twin girls on Christmas! Anyways my body doesn't look so great to say the least. But I don't hate my body, how can I hate something that created not one but two perfect babies. I don't think its fair to say your body is "ruined", because some women actually have serious injuries and health problems due to pregnancy. If our saggy stomachs are the thing only we're worried about, then maybe we don't have it so bad. I'm only 19, and my body will never be the same. I've just gotten to the point to where I feel selfish worrying about the map on my tummy and the skin that only seems to sag worse with time. Its a small price we have to pay, for the best gift in the world. Your body is amazing, you carried two babies almost full term!!! We are all blessed and there are bigger things to be worried over

Nice to see someone else with the same problem as me. I am 23 and had twins... I have stretch marks from one hip to the other and all over the front of my belly... I measured 4 1/2 feet around..... I have no idea how to get rid of it... besides surgery and every where you look there is itty bitty people saying you can do it... Frustrating.. not everyones bodys are the same... Hope you find the solution

My identical twin boys turn 2 years old in a just a few days. Although my weight has (finally) returned to it's pre-pregnancy size, my ugly stomach has not. I, too, have stretch marks and extra skin and flab that no amount of exercise has been able to fix. For the last year I have been doing pilates or yoga everyday, combined with walking or running a few times a week. 5 weeks ago I even started P90X and although I can feel that my stomach muscles are stronger, the skin and flab are still there, covering what should be a sexy six pack. I fear that the only solution is a tummy tuck, but don't have the finances to get it done.
It's nice to hear/read that I'm not the only one going through this but that doesn't technically make it any easier. My daughter and her baby brothers are my life's more precious and best accomplishments but it's hard when people still ask me if I'm pregnant.

I'm not alone
by: Cali22

Just like you I had my twins at 20. Boy and girl. I am 5'2 and before the pregnancy I weighed 125lbs. I went back to my normal weight about a year after I had them, but I am still left with the saggy skin and stretch marks. I am serious about having the surgery. I've done a lot of research and there really is no other way to get rid of the extra skin. If you google videos about tummy tucks they will show you what has happened to your stomach from the pregnancy and how the surgery fixes it. I'm not scared of having surgery. I've also researched dozens of plastic surgeons and found a few that I feel would be safe and give me the best results. All I can say is it's really up to you. Do your research and get your body back. I don't blame you.

Best of Luck!

8 months post pregnancy

Okay, no word of a lie...I saw your picture and seriously thought I was looking at a picture of myself!! I have the same shape belly, stretch marks, and belly button as yours. I delivered my identical twin girls via c-section at 37 weeks and they are now 8 months old. I have been doing everything I can to try and improve the look of my stomach for the last 4 months and I am not really getting anywhere -- but, I am not giving up hope. Although my stomach feels horrible some days (like my abs are literally broken) the thought of having to consider surgery to fix it devistates me. Everytime I look at it, I just have to remind myself that I am soooo greatful for my twin girls.... I guess in the grand scheme of things, this is just a small price to pay for having two precious gifts. Thank you Mrs. Ortiz for sharing this picture....it is nice to know that I'm not the only one that had to pay this price.

I just had twins also. My stomach is like a mirror image of yours. The twins are about 5 months right now, and as much as I would never take back having them, I am very saddened by my stomach, which was one of my favorite parts of my body before. My stretchmarks are fading quickly, but still the texture of them is still there, and it's disgusting to me. I've heard if your stretchmarks are more than a 1/4" wide that you can have surgery to have the excess skin removed. You'll have a scar, but I think maybe I look into it because it's better than a huge stretch mark (some of mine are about an 1" wide!!), right? I hated how so many of the professionals would tell me at 9 months- "you know those will never go away, right?" How do you even respond to that? And I have no idea what to do about my belly button either. It popped out during the pregnancy, and now it's back in, but it looks like a totally different belly button! I get so envious of those moms that can just jump into a bikini after all of this! Best of luck to you!

i know how you feel

i'm glad to see that i am not the only one that feels this way. I think that people that have multiples should be offered a reconstructive surgery at a discount to help us get back to a normal looking stomach. I too had twins, girls who are now 16. I had them at the age of 24, had always been the type of person to exercise. I weighed 128 pounds and was 5'5 inches when i got pregnant. I had always had a small body frame, and had had one prior pregnancy where i only gained 18 pounds and only kept 5 pounds on after my pregnancy. But with my twins i gained 72 pounds during the pregnancy with a total body weight of 200 pounds by my 9th month. My stomach muscels streatched so far that my doctor could put his fist through my stomach wall. 16 years later i never really lost the weight and my stomach was never the same. I really miss my physicaly fit body. But i love my girls! I know how you feel.

Please don't get discouraged! I was 26 when I had my boys, and looked much like you for a while. I gained a lot of weight from nearly 5 months bedrest & a high protien diet (twin -to-twin transfusion syndrome). It took some time to get back to normal, and was frustrating to look at myself. After the birth of my first, it took a little over a year to bounce back to my old size, and this time it took 2 years. I've come to accept the sagging skin under my bellybutton from a C-section, and my husband loves my belly for the children it made. Stri-vectin, though expensive, worked wonders on my stretch marks, and turned a purple surgery scar to a normal color. An exercise ball is helping to flatten my belly more every day; i can see a 6-pack coming back under the thickened skin when i flex. I use it in place of a computer chair & saw results quickly. Try those neoprene shorts & belly bands sold by Curves in the Avon catalog as well; they jump-started my weight loss when i plateued after a few months. Of course the kids are worth it, but we want to feel like our sleek, sexy, pre-baby selves again.

You inspire me woman!
by: Melissa Dunham

Now I posted my picture on here and everyone said it looked good. I was not brave enough to show my whole body because this is what I have too. Stretch marks in places you don't even find out until a year down the road. I have a problem especially with the flap of skin near the c-section. I will never wear bikini undies again. I still think you look great though. Thank you for posting what I couldn't! :)

HOPE THIS HELPS.
by: NATY

I totally agree with you too. I am 22 and my babies are now 6 months. I also have complaints about my belly. It kind of like sags a little which I never had to deal with before. But I myslf have thought about surgery but I do not like the fact that you're taking a life and death risk. I have heard of people who have died at the table and I don't think that you putting your daughter at risk of staying motherless is fair because of how you feel. I mean, I do be uncomfortable and all but when I think about it, I say "I did all for my babies" and honestly, OFFCOURSE THEY WERE WORTH IT!!! Maybe with some time, your belly will get better too. I believe it will!! I also use this cream from AVON and it is great. It's a cream for stretch marks & cellulites and I used it for my first pregnancy & now for my second. It takes time offcourse, but it gas helped me to get the stretch marks lighter.

I understand
by: Jessica

Hey there. I totally understand how you feel and where you are coming from. I had my twins (a beautiful boy and girl) at the age of 25 and am now 26...my babies are 5 months old and I am trying to figure out how to get rid of this extra belly fat/skin. If you've dieted and tried it that way...it might be that a little surgery would help you feel better about yourself. I haven't been serious about a diet/exercise plan yet b/c I'm still trying to get use to having TWO babies to take care of but I hope to tackle this soon. I just wanted to let you know that I understand and I'm with you. I am not as brave as you to put a pic of me though. If you get down on yourself just look at your 2 healty babies and think of it as a badge of honor!!
