Twin pregnancy and extreme morning sickness

by Alicia
(Paradise, Ca, USA)

I am about 10 weeks pregnant with twins :) Unfortunately I have horrible morning sickness. And fatigue. Please tell me how long does this normally last? I pray that it stops after my first trimester, like with my previous pregnancies. I eat and refund what I just ate. Or I am to sick to even think about food. Everything sounds gross. I have had morning sickness before but nothing like this.

What makes it difficult is that I have a 16 mo. old and a 32 mo. old, I feel like I should be up doing more for/with them. Luckily I have a wonderful husband who helps out with anything and everything.

Twins - double the morning sickness/double the blessing :)
by: Anonymous

I am 9 weeks pregnant with twins and have had severe nausea since 6 weeks...thankfully I have not been vomitting, but I spend the majority of my day on the couch, in bed or above the toilet with gag's and heaves...ugh...
I find the one thing that has helped a little is chewing gum. My grandmother taught me this when I was little and would go on long car rides that would make me motion sick...
So, I throw a stick of gum in my mouth and have temporary relief for a lil bit.
I also make my husband chew gum all day long because my sense of smell is so hightened and smelling breath, or cooking, or anything for that matter makes it worse...
Good luck...hoping this dissapears soon...

Extreme morning sickness
by: Ange

Hi, I had twins and had extreme morning sickness ALL day! I was sick until around week 17 and started to feel quite sick in the last trimester at times as well. I was prescribed medication for the sickness but I don't even know if it helped because I was so ill. Just the smell of anything cooking made me heave or worse! I had a lot of time off work because I just couldn't get ready and take the drive in the car or sit at my desk all day with frequent trips to the toilet in fear I would be sick! I remember looking grey for most of the first trimester. Twins is a hard pregnancy so if you are like me it will be such a relief when they are out :) You will get there and the sickness will eventually stop. Hope all goes well and get ready for the many challenges ahead :)

I am 8 weeks and 2 days with twins. This is my first pregnancy so its all new to me. I get SO sick in the mornings and can't even get out of bed or think about food until 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Im staying hydrated but really worried that my babies aren't getting what they need. Is this normal? Would appreciate any advice =D

So much sicker with twins
by: Kathy

I am 8 weeks pregnant with twins and am so much sicker than with my first two pregnancies. My doctor told me not to expect it to go away anytime soon - but I keep wondering when will it at least peak and then start to get better? The medication I'm taking helps a lot, but I am still pretty sick all day and at night. I recommend the meds - if only to keep you out of the hospital when you're so sick. I take Zofran every 8 hours during the day, 75 mg of B6, and 1/2 Unisom at night before bed. The Unisom/B6 combo is saving me right now. It was a tip I got from another mom of twins, and my doctor okayed it. Try it - it might make a huge difference.

Morning sickness all day long:(
by: Teresa

I am 9 weeks pregnant with twins and have had morning sickness all day long. Why is it called morning sickness if it's all day? It just started where I am vomiting now, I have been very sensitive to smells and have had nausea since I was 5 weeks. Most days I am so tired I don't want to get out of bed. This is my third pregnancy and it was not this bad with the last two. I eat all day, small meals but nothing sounds good or the smell makes me nauseated. I have had three sonograms an everything looks great so I don't worry too much but I can't even enjoy this pregnancy or my other two daughters right now. Hopefully this will end or just let up soon.

I'm not alone!
by: Heather

I am 12 weeks with twins and have been SO nautious since week 7. Never any vomiting, but sometimes I wonder if it would be better! Smells are heightened.. And it's still difficult to find enough food that sounds good. I have to eat so often! Assuming this is normal? Dealing with headaches and constipation too.. I pray this stops soon so I can enjoy this pregnancy as these are my first babies..

Off and On
by: Christina

I'm nearly 13 weeks pregnant with twins and my morning sickness (nausea and gagging, but no vomiting)started around Week 6 and typically lasted all day long until the middle of Week 8. From Week 8 to Week 10 I didn't feel very good each day, but I wasn't necessarily nauseous (gagging still continued). Then during Week 10 the nausea came back, but only for an hour or two a day. Unfortunately, today I'm at 12 weeks and 6 days and I have had morning sickness all day long. I drink a ton of water every single day, plus I get a great deal of protein from milk, eggs, cereal and meat. I'm thankful that I am not vomiting, but hope the morning sickness stops soon, just like you. My doctor did say she would give me medication if it got too bad, so maybe you could consider that. Good luck to you!! :)

PROTEIN HELPS!!
by: Anonymous

Each a lot of protein!!! It has helped me. Also - my Dr. gave me a prescription which helped with the nausea, I wouldn't be able to work without it. I'm am almost 8 week, it's getting a little better but I have the medication now also. I'm hoping I can stop taking it at 12 weeks. I stopped it on Sunday for a day so I wouldn't be so constipated. Drinking prune juice and Activia yogurt helps.

nausea and twin pregnancy
by: Anonymous

i am only 8 wks along with a twin pregnancy but have been extremely nauseated and vomiting for 2 weeks now. I feel so hungry, but nothing tastes good and the thought of putting food in my mouth makes me worse. I am hoping this will pass soon. My OB prescribed Zofran and I had about 2 hours free of severe nausea, but then developed a migraine headache that lasted 2 days!

Nausea
by: Anonymous

I also had terrible morning sickness around the clock until I was 1 week in to my fourth month. It just disappeared and I began to feel normal. I bought these wrist bands from the pharmacy that have little balls in them that press on pressure points in your wrist and they worked wonders. I think they are meant for people who fly and suffer from nausea. But they were great , maybe you should give them a try.

Don't give up hope!
by: Katie

Hi there. I had morning sickness for the entire first trimester, and the second my 12th week hit, it vanished. I hope it's the same for you! I'm still morning sick free, although my appetite hasn't really returned to "normal". I still can't eat meat, but I get my protein from other sources such as eggs, yogurt, peanut butter, etc. Hang in there!

Poor thing!
by: Lindsey

I know exactly what you are going through! I was getting depressed because it was a constant nausea for me too. But fortunately in my case, after week 12, I slowly started to feel better and better. I think by week 14 or 15 I was fine and could eat normally. But I read that sometimes it is caused by lack of protein and vitamin Bs. We should be eating at least 100 grams of protein a day! I make a point to eat some kind of protein in each snack, usually nuts and whole grain bread, not really into meat all that much still. Good luck and picture the light just around the corner!

Hang in there
by: Brenda

Morning sickness isnt fun but sometimes it clan last only the first trimester and sometimes it can last the whole pregnancy. I have our tiwns and then I have two other children. With my first born I had it it the whole pregnancy. With our 2nd born and with the twins I only had it for the first 4 month but I had a hightend sense of smell. I couldnt go into our pantry without gagging and I couldnt wear perfume. The grocery store would also get me gagging.

Just hang in there. Carry saltine crackers and water with you at all times. But most importantly take care of yourself.
