Twin for the first time

The doctor told me that I am having twins. During the ultrasound the shape of one of the sac is elliptical and long while the other one is round. They have also different ages based on gestational sac. One is 5 weeks and the other one is 6 weeks. Could it be normal?

Let me first preface this by saying I am not a doctor.
If there are 2 sacs then there are 2 so at the moment you are expecting twins - congratulations!! This ultrasound is very early on in the pregnancy however if they are only dating 5 and 6 weeks - and while accurate, unfortunately not all embryos continue on. There is something called vanishing twin syndrome.
But since two were seen - you are pregnant with twins. There can be many reasons for the size differences - one may be older than the other as with 2 sacs they are fraternal and could possibly have been conceived a week apart. One may be healthier and stronger than the other. Fraternal twins can be no more alike than 2 children from 2 separate pregnancies and maybe that's why the gestational sacs are shaped differently! It really is very early in the twin pregnancy so that may change.
I wish you the best of luck and please pop in again to keep us posted!
