twin crawling question

by Shanon
(Lebanon, IN)

Hello!

I am a mom of 9 month old identical twin boys! One is crawling, climbing stairs, and pulling up on everything! The other one is army crawling and rolls, but does not do anything else. Just wondering how far apart your twins out their started doing these physical things???? How long did it take for the other twin to do the same things???

Thanks!
Shanon

TWIN DEVELOPMENTAL DIFFERENCES
by: Linda

Hi Shanon. My partner and I have 11 month old twin boys (born at 37 weeks and 2 days) who are pretty much at the same stage as your two. My 'youngest', Felix (twin 2) is crawling, standing, sitting independently and cruising, whereas my 'eldest', Theodore (twin 1) is 'commando crawling' sitting independently, and has yet to stand. I have noticed that overall, Felix is about two months ahead of his brother movement wise. He was first to roll over, sit up, etc, but in all other respects, eg, language development etc, they are pretty much on par with each other. Initially, when Felix started to roll over whilst Theodore just lay on his tummy, I would fret endlessly about it, and blame myself for not giving him enough individual attention (tough, with twins, as you know) or enough tummy time, but as time went on, and he began to catch up, I kind of relaxed, and let things unfold. In fact, I find as time goes on, and I relax into and enjoy parenthood (I was a first time mum) that most things tick along just fine. Life with twins is a fascinating journey. So PLEASE DONT WORRY. Good luck and enjoy your babies.

Remember even though they are twins, they are individuals persons. They will develop at different times. If you are concerned, than I suggest you speak with their pediatrician. Otherwise let them be there own individuals and let them develop on their own.
