Twin Belly Skin Hurts

by Donna
(Chicago)

I had my twins 3 weeks ago. My belly is working its way back down, which I'm pleased about. However, The skin toward the bottom is very sensitive, and it is very irritating to have my shirt rub on it...or when I touch it. Is this common? How long does that sensitivity take to go away? Thanks!

My belly hurts too!
by: Anonymous

I had twin baby girls 10 weeks ago vaginally and my skin is pretty sensitive on my belly as well. I was told it's just the skin trying to shrink itself back down, but it's irritating!

Thanks for getting back...

I was just wondering because if you had a c-section than it is normal for the skin to be sensitive. I have had two c-sections and the skin on the belly can be sensitive for up to a year and maybe longer. Just imagine that all the nerve endings were cut when you had the c-section so it takes time for them to heal back. You may feel like its numb or sensitive to clothes when they rub on that area. Its all normal. Congrats on your twins! Make sure you check out the twin forum on this website. Its great to connect with other twin moms and ask questions and get advice.

Sore Skin With Twins
by: Adrienne

I had a c-section almost 4 years ago and the incision has always had a little section on it that's still numb and still itches. Now that I'm pregnant with twins, it's much itchier and more sensitive and my entire belly skin stings by the end of almost every day. I'm using multiple creams when I get out the shower just to prevent the itching - never mind prevention of stretchmarks (which I believe cannot be prevented, if you're going to get them, no amount of cream will help that). Sometimes even when I'm at work I have to lift my t-shirt off my belly to avoid that horrible stinging feeling. It's all worth it for the prize at the end though, right :o)

c-section

I had a c-section. The incision is great. That doesn't hurt at all. It's just the skin above that and up to my belly button.

you have to remember how far you stretched!
by: Anonymous

Depending on the severity of your stretch marks, you may have tiny tears in your belly skin. As you heal, sometimes you'll see stretch marks forming that you didn't have before. Twin pregnancy takes a toll on your body in a lot of ways!
You may want to try using cocoa butter or vitamin E cream or even Aloe on your belly daily while it's healing.
Good luck and congratulations on your twin babies!
