I gained 70lbs with my twin boys. Like most women who find out they are pregnant with twins, I was VERY scared of pre-term birth and my twins going to NICU. I followed Dr. Barbara Luke's twin book "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads." She advocates 3500 calories a day from the very beginning and gaining 38lbs by 28 weeks (with healthy foods.) Also, per her guidelines, I drank a GALLON of water every day, no exceptions! Even though my boys came early at 36 weeks, they weighed 5.5 and 5.9 at c-section delivery and did NO NICU!!! YAY!!! For some weird reason, her research of 2,354 twin pregnancies showed that good weight gain in early pregnancy made the weight fall off fast post-delivery. I know, sounds crazy. I just wanted big, healthy twin babies, but losing 55lbs the first 2 weeks post-delivery was a very cool side effect! LOL Not sure how I avoided stretch marks, but all that water drinking could not have hurt, and I used Palmer's oil with regular lotion on top of it to "seal in" the oil.
