twin babies sleeping arrangements?

I am pregnant with twins and am totally new at this, still have a lot of learning to do. Do twins generally sleep together in one bassinet/crib? Is it considered safe? What works best? I have another child who will be 16 months when the twins are born so I need all the advice I can get on what works best when taking care of twins.

sleeping twins
by: Jennifer

When my girls were born we had them in the same bassinet ( they were a little under 6 pounds at birth so they fit well) But most nights they ended up in our bed with me.then we moved them to one crib, they share and have been there ever since. And they are 9 months old. They love sleeping together and when we traveled and put them in two different cribs, they would not sleep. My girls love sleeping together, and i have no clue as to when we will seperate them. They really do not seem to bother each other at all. They sleep well together. Good Luck and congrats.

Start with twins in the same crib

We had our twin girls in the same crib for several months. Once they started moving around and interrupting each other we separated them.

By having our girls share a crib, it gave us a chance to transition our youngest toddler out of his crib. Our story here:

Sleeping twins

From birth to 6 months our twin girls slept in the same crib but with sleep positioners. It is safe until they start rolling out of the positioners and onto each other, waking each other up and for us that was around 6 months.

Not quite sure a bassinet would fit both girls, maybe just for the first couple of weeks but then they will need more room.

Hope this helps and feel free to join us in the forum area of this website. There are lots of great parents to be and already twin parents. There is lots of great information and advice.
