Our family is a traveling family. We try to get our 4 children out on a family vacation at least two times per year. We have 14 year old twin girls in our family, as well as an older daughter, and a younger son. Traveling with twins does not pose any special problems or circumstances except that there are always two girls who are the same age, but have very different personalities and enjoy different things….. as I guess is the case with all twins.

Traveling with twins is a privilege, and it builds on their life experiences. Sometimes the process of getting everything together, and out the door can seem too much, but in reality, you do not need to take your entire house with you… as my husband likes to remind me, there will be a Walmart where we are going! So, I try to relax and just enjoy the trips…. All of our family vacations have turned out to be well worth the time and energy involved!

As our twins have grown, each age has posed it own unique issues and fun! Traveling with two year olds, of course can be difficult, but as by obstetrician told me early on, it will not be X2 but X10….. that was real comforting as I was almost 200 pounds and growing larger everyday. You know what each of your twins is interested in…. Just continue to treat them as individuals and have a great time.

Now, as many differences as I have mentioned between my twins… they are really more alike than they like to admit. Both love roller coasters, swimming, ice cream, working on their myspace web sites, and baseball games. We have found that exposing them to all sorts of experiences and opportunities only helps them to realize that they really do have a lot in common.

There are great family vacation choices for each age group that your twins might be in…..

Younger Children

Large Cities are uniquely set up to handle this age group because there are children’s Museums, Hands On Museums, or other places for children to move around and touch….. Beach Vacations are always good for any age group. While traveling with our twins while they were young, being in the sea salt air always made for early nights and really sleeping well.

Older Children

As our children got older, we found that theme parks and Baseball games were always a big hit. Big Cities are also a big hit with older children, but when dealing with girls, you always run into the SHOPPING issue. If you are the strong-willed type, (not like me), you will be able to shop with 12 – 14 year old girls ALL DAY LONG….

Family Cruises are great fun during the older years. All of the major cruise lines have children’s programs lined up…. And these programs are great. Cruises also give the children opportunities to have their pictures made several times a day…. You will be amazed how good some of the pictures are…..

No matter your circumstances, Family Vacations and traveling with twins are times that you will never get back…. Spend time traveling with your children…. Let them get to know each other, and you get to know them better.
