I am 26 weeks pregnant and live in Kentucky and this flu virus is scaring me to death. I am afraid to leave my house in fear of getting it! Has anyone experienced anything with it being pregnant just wondering????

H1N1

I came in close contact with two people who were infected with the swine flu when it first reached the U.S. They had been in Mexico and I spent three hours with them at a friend wedding. I sat right next to them and thankfully didn't come into physical contact but I was 33 weeks prego with my girls and was nervous. Luckily, I was fine and never even got sick. I would ask your Doc but just take the same precautions you would take for any illness...

Yes, I have. I have been debating whether to get vaccinated for it or not and have now decided not to. I just don't think they have done enough testing to really know if there are side effects for unborn babies even down the line. OK here's my story and what I know. Just this past Sunday I was with my 9 month old nephew all day hugging and kissing and loving like you do. Then yesterday...Monday...his mother called me to let me know she just left the doctors and he is sick and has the Swine Flu, lovely. I immediately called my doctor he prescribed me Tamiflu which is the medicine they give to people who have Swine Flu. If you have the Flu you take 2 pills a day for 5 days, for me or anyone else who has been exposed to it, in order to "Prevent" the flu you take 1 a day for 10 days. Today I'm feeling a little blah like I might be getting a cold so who knows, could be allergies could be nothing. BUT I am ASSURED everything should be fine since I've started on the medicine and it is the SAME medicine you would get if you were infected.

I asked about my husband since he was exposed as well. The doctor said if he gets any symptoms to just take Tylenol cold and flu for and treat it like any other flu. There isnt' much they do for it, other than give you the Tamiflu or you treat it yourself, if you're not in the high risk categories. Which are children, pregnant woman, & elderly. If as a pregnant woman you happen to get it again you'll get the treatment medicine the Tamiflu and go on, hopefully with no complications. I'm sure it's a case by case basis as any illness would be, things affect people differently. I hope this gave you some info. I'm not NEAR as scared as I was, I thought it was a deadly thing and was really afraid about getting it. BUT it's not so much it's simply another form of the flu, which can cause problems in some but not as horrible as the media has made it out to be. Good luck!
