Sleeping Arrangements for Twins?

I am about 13 weeks pregnant and just found out last week at our first ultrasound appointment that we are having twins! We have plenty of time to decide but the question of sleeping arrangements has come up several times. We have two spare bedrooms and were thinking of putting them in separate rooms after the first few months. I've heard things like they have a special bond and need to be together. It seems like from what I've read that a lot of people tend to put both twin babies in the same room. Any advice????

Sleeping together...
by: Des

My boys are 16 months old. When we first brought them home from the hospital, we put them in separate bassinets... They were up all night, screaming and crying. One night, we put them in the same bassinet and they slept through the entire night. They've been sleeping in the same bed ever since. I think twins decide when they're ready to be apart. My baby A has decided he doesn't want to sleep with his brother anymore and cries when they're in the same crib. BUT my baby B cries when his brother doesn't sleep with him. I hold one while the other goes to sleep alone, then put him in bed with his sleeping brother. He snuggles up to him and goes right to sleep. :)

Sleep twins together
by: Brenda

Our girls slept together in the same crib for the first 6 months. We used sleep positioners and the girls slept really well next to each other. Even in the hospital, the nurses say that twins spend 9 months together in the womb...they love having each other next to one another.

Congratulations!!

My twin girls will be 7 months old on September 13, 2010. Someone (who does not have twins) told me that they should be sleeping in seperate beds. We tried it but they did not seem to sleep as well. We are playing it by ear and keeping them in the same crip as long as it works.

Congratulations

My girls were in the same bassinet in the hospital and have slept in the same crib since we got home. One babysitter we had thought that they were disturbing one another with their crying, so she tried separating them, and told me that made it much worse. They can cry and scream, but unless it is time to eat, they usually do not wake up the other twin even in the same crib.

sleeping arrangements
by: Kristin

Congratulations on your twin pregnancy!

Our girls slept together in the same crib until they were 6.5 months. We put them in their own cribs but their cribs were right next to each other. They would hold each others hands or stick their legs through the rails to touch each other. We had to seperate their cribs at about 10 months, just on opposite sides of their room, because they were waking each other up. We put them in big girl beds at 15.5 months and almost every night and nap they end up crawling into bed with each other and we leave them there.

I know that some twins are OK in seperate rooms but our girls wouldn't do so well with it. If there comes a day when they want seperate rooms then we will honor those wishes.

My boys will be 6 months on the 13th of Sept and they still sleep in the same crib together. They don't like sleeping apart from each other. If I take Kaiden out while Josiah is still sleeping, Josiah will start to "feel" around the crib for his brother and eventually wake up if he isn't there and vice versa. We are slowly starting to wean them off of that b/c they are now starting to wake each other up during the night. But we do plan on letting them sleep in the same room together for as long as they want to. Trust me your kids will let you know what they prefer...
