questions about having twins

by David
(Texas)

Twin Pregnancy:
My wife is 5'5" and about 118lbs (small). Will her size have anything to do with the chances of our twins being prematurely born?

Twin Parenting:
Usually there is one twin that is either more social or more intelligent, How do you teach your twins such that the other does not feel dumb.

For Example: You are teaching your kids their colors and one always seems to answer. This may make the other feel dumb. How do you teach them so that they do not feel neglected?

Size of babies
by: Anonymous

I am 5'4" and I weighed 118 pounds pre-pregnancy. I gained a little over 50lbs and had a pretty smooth pregnancy. I delivered at 37 weeks +2. Baby "A" 6 lbs 9oz, Baby "B" 5 lbs 2oz. Still good birth weights for twins.

They are 9 weeks now and "A" is 10lbs 10oz and "B" is 9lbs 2oz.

They are doing really good. "A" is a very active baby, very curious and smiles and coos alot. "B" is more reserved and likes to sleep more then play. I would never assume "B" is "dumb". They have their own qualities, that is what makes each one unique.

No assumptions
by: Shelly Cunningham

My advice about one twin being smart & the other "not so smart" would be to not assume that this will occur. Each of your twins will have their strengths (and likely their share of weaknesses) but I would just wait & see what develops. Assuming beforehand that one will be ahead & one lag behind sets you up for failure. Our boys seem to take turns. One developed quicker physically, the other had advanced language/fine motor development. If you can, spend one on one time with each twin at some point every week. This will help each to feel like they are important & loved (despite any competition between the two.)
Good luck, and enjoy the ride!

Ok, I am going to start by telling you that her size has nothing to do with the way your babies develop. I am 5'2, 145 lbs and my babies were born at 39 weeks, 7 lbs and 12 oz each!!! Yes, I did a good job I guess. But everything happens naturally. Just make sure she eats right (& no, it not nessary for her to eat triple!!), tell her to be as stress-free as possible, lots of rest, drink plenty of water, AND OFFCOURSE, DRINK HER VITAMINS AND IRON!! The way your baby develops depends on the individual. I did not get nothing irregular, all of my tests were normal. The only thing that went wrong with me was that my baby was breech so I got a C-section. Don't worry too much, everything will work out okay!! Good luck & take care of her!!! This will be a journey to remember!!!
