Problem with sleeping twins - 2 years old in beds

by Kerry Neale

Hi, I have 2 year old twin girls that share a bedroom. Two months ago we moved them into toddler beds as they had started to climb out of their cots.

For the first few nights, they were fantastic. However since then, it's an absolute nightmare to get them to sleep at night, and for their day nap.

They play, empty the clothes out of their chest of drawers, take their clothes and nappies off, strip their beds (including the mattress sometimes) ..........

I've tried all of the standard sleep tips for toddlers however these don't seem to work for me when there's 2 of them.

I've resorted to separating them at each sleep time - putting one in their bedroom and the other in a portacot in our bedroom. Again, this worked for a while but now the one in the portacot also climbs out of there and plays in the room.

I don't want to separate them if there's another option. However I'm doing this on my own most nights as my husband works away for 2 weeks at a time so I'm finding it really difficult.

PLEASE HELP ME!

2 year old twin boys bedtime struggles
by: Anonymous

I have two year old twin boys who are in toddler beds and even though they have a nightly routine i am still struggling to get them to go to bed as well. They go down easier if i skip their nap but i have the worst attitudes during the day. I don't think they are ready to skip naptime but i also am so tired of fighting with them to go to bed every night. My 5 year old daughter took a nap until she went to kindergarden but she also always had her own room. The twins share a room and they play with eachother and keep each other up. We do the bath, book and soft songs every night but to no avail. I can definately relate and am searching for some answers as well. Keep hoping they will grow out of it but they are almost 3!!

Once those monkeys start climbing out all on their own - what do you do? Our would climb out and empty all the dresser drawers into each others cribs and when one couldn't climb out - the other would climb IN to give them a boost! It's rough after that trying to get them to stay put. We're struggling with the idea of finally separating them as bedtime is playtime....

Thanks

Thanks for the recriminations but we didn't do it by choice. Our eldest daughter was left in her cot 'til she was almost 3 years old because she didn't ever climb out. Unfortunately the twins did and it was too dangeous to leave them in there. I would LOVE to have left them in their cots a lot longer believe me.

Too Soon

This is why doctors recommend children be left in their cribs until the age of 3.
