Meghan's story about finding out it's twins !

It started with a weekend away from our regular routine. Friends were visiting from out of town, and my sister was having a sleep-over with our two year old. A couple of weeks later, I drove to my husband's work and asked him,"If I thought I knew something but wasn't 100% postive, would you want to know?" He replied,"Are you pregnant?" That day I called my ObGyn and made an appointment for two weeks from that day, which was three days after I would've missed period.

No joke, it was the same way with my first, I knew immediately. So I go and the doctor confirms for me that yes, I am pregnant. Everything goes as before, monthly visits, and plan the first sonogram for 18 wks. My husband managed to get the day off and we even brought big brother with us.

By this time I am definitely noticing differences between this pregnancy and my first. I knew I would show faster, but this was silly, and already I was a bit uncomfortable. I just credited that to the fact that I was out of shape. Of course everything hurt, I was 33 and hadn't worked out in at least two years, and least fifteen before that. I had had a fleeting thought that it might be twins but again discounted that as being out of shape. So we arrive for the ultrasound. We go in ,I lay down ,give the tech answers to all of her questions, and then she asks, "Are you having twins?" I said, "no, I don't think so, why do you ask?" She tells me that there has been a lot of twins lately and she would need to set the machine differently if it were.

My husband and I exchange glances and I lay back down...cold jelly...and she says to me chuckle "You're having twins." I sat up and said, "Are you kidding me?" I looked at the screen and she showed me the outline of two heads. At that moment my world changed. All at once I was overwhelmed with worry...We have to move, another crib, poor Sean (my oldest), we'll need a bigger car...etc.,etc.,etc.

The pregnancy progressed well. No complications whatsoever, aside from the anxiety. So comes the birthing day. Two breech babies, and a scheduled 37 week c-section. Despite for some early complications for one (8 days in NICU), here we are 13 months later. The first five months are a blur. Good or bad, it's all a blur. The last 7 months have been a joy. Watching the crawling, pulling up, babbling, etc., have been fantastic. They are doing just fine and are so much fun - mostly because of how different they are. Very much alike, but very different. Distinct. I have my moments when I think the grass is greener, but I'll be better off in the long run.
