My fiance and I were a little stunned to find out we were expecting last August. I went in for a routine pap and annual check up only to discover I was pregnant. After the first initial tests my OB sent me for and ultrasound. Surprise surprise---we were 5 weeks pregnant with twins! For a couple that hadn't planned on children we were shocked and terrified. Then we were overjoyed and excited. The twin pregnancy went fairly routine--at least for the first 7 months. We had ultrasounds every 4 weeks and a regular monthly OB check up. When my eight month came I began experiencing high blood pressure and extreme swelling. By 35 weeks I had developed preaclampsia and needed an emergency c-section. My boys were born at 35 weeks 2days--they weighed 5lbs 4oz and 5lbs 11 oz. Austen was born first and Kyle came 2 minutes later. Unfortunaley Austen, being a preemie had difficulty feeding and Aspirated formula into his lungs--this landed him in the NICU. Kyle had no difficulty and remained in the Nursery. I also had major complications--kidney failure and 4 blood transfusions. As a result I was restricted to recovery for 5 grueling days and unable to see Austen in the NICU.

FINALLY, out of recovery, I was moved to the maternity ward and able to move around. All in all, I was in the hospital for 8days--Kyle came home with me--Austen followed only 1 week later. I returned to the hospital for a brief stay as I began hemmorhaging. Thankfully all is well now. Today they are almost 2 months old and have doubled their birth weight. They are thriving and generally happy little boys! We are working on getting them sleeping through the night!!!! For all the complications and sleep deprivation I wouldn't change a thing!
