Identical Twins fingerprints

by Kim
(Canada)

Do identical twins have identical fingerprints too ?

Answer-
The basic is answer is - NO - they don't. While monozygotic twins are formed when a single fertilized egg splits in twho - their DNA is almost perfectly identical.

Fingerprints though - are not just a genetic characteristic - they are what's known as a phenotype -

Fingerprints are believed to be influenced by environmental factors during pregnancy like nutrition, blood pressure and growth rate.
It is likely the fingerprints will be similar with identical twins but there will also be differences just as there are with any individual's fingerprints.
