How to entertain 8 months twins (boy/girl)?

by Britta
(Munich, Germany)

My twins Giselle and Julian are almost 8 months now. They were born almost full term in the 38th week, are healthy and happy.
We live in Germany and the weather is often cold and rainy. They are not sitting by themselves and being on the belly makes them unhappy very quickly.
Especially in the afternoon, I have a hard time keeping them happy while being at home. My 4,5 year old son helps me but often want to play by himself.
I cannot carry both twin babies or be quick in playing things with all three of them. What could I do? I seem to loose temper too quickly and in the evening I am exhausted and often feel depressed because I have a feeling to not doing enough.

Any good advice?

Britta

Busy babies...
by: Katie

My girls have just turned 9 months now and have been very busy babies from the start. I have trouble keeping them entertained most days! I've found that they really like taking objects out of boxes or big cups. I have a fisher price fish bowl toy that comes with plastic fish that rattle. They love to pull the fish out after I put them all in, or any other toy for that matter! Lol. My girls also love any toy that makes noise. An activity you can do with all three of your children is reading, playing with blocks, sing-a-longs. My girls were sitting up by 6 months, but it took a lot of work. I would have to sit on the floor with them between my legs. They need to strengthen their back muscles. Try it with each twin every day and before you know it they will be sitting on their own and that makes life much easier! my girls never liked the bumbo seats, so I don't recommend those. But every baby is different. As for crawling, my one girl is beginning to and the other can't be bothered. So don't stress yourself too much - just do what you can. Maybe your son could sit with one of the twins between his legs to help one of the twins sit up. Give big brother a special reward for helping mommy! Good luck!

Jumpers
by: Anna

Yes, I would definitely recommend using the jumperoos! Before my twins could sit on their own or crawl, they would love to go in their jumpers. We had one that hung from the ceiling and one that had a stand and they could spin themselves around 360 degrees and play with the various toys that were on it (it was made by fisherprice and called Rainforest Jumperoo). They also liked the play mats that had toys hanging from it. They would lie on their backs and look up at the toys. I would also put them in the vibrating chairs that had toys hanging from a bar above their heads. Sometimes I would also put them in these chairs and put on a Baby Einstein DVD or Dora The Explorer and they would love to watch.

things to do.....
by: Kristin

I would recommend finding activites to encourage sitting and crawling. At 8 months our girls loved crawling all over the house, and enjoyed taking things out of boxes. I would put things away and they would take the things out ;-) I don't know what is available in Germany, but we used Bumbo chairs while our girls were learning to sit on their own and our girls also loved being in their Jumperoos/Exersaucer. They also enjoyed activity gyms that they could sit at and swat the toys, or lay underneath and play with the toys. All of these items are available at babiesrus.com.
