How identical are the twins with one placenta?

The Doctor told me that I will be having two girls but they're sharing a placenta. I'm wondering how identical they will be. Just wondering if anyone out there with identical twins that shared a placenta.

by: Anonymous

hi i am confused i had what i was told fraternal twin boys 5 months ago born 7 weeks early weighing 5lb each. all through my many many scans i was told i had 2 placentas and the babies were in separate sacks.. however when i gave birth i only had one placenta.... the midwife said they will be identical...as only 1 placenta. well we noticed differences i asked one of the top consultants about placentas fusing together and he said his" utter twaddle they can not fuse together" can anyone shed any light on this?
many thanks tara

One placenta, Identical girls
by: Brenda

I have 4 month old identical girls. I had one placenta, but the girls were in sepreate sacks. They ARE identical. The only way we can tell the difference is one weighs a bit more than the other and her head is a bit bigger. Otherwise there is no way to tell them apart. I have sent pictures to friends and family and they are amazed how much they are identical.

Congrats on your twin pregnancy!
