How do you tell identical twin babies apart ?

by Eve
(Wisconsin)

We're having identical twins and I was wondering if anyone knew of some ideas to be able to tell them apart, until they are older and show their own personalities?

Using earrings to tell girls apart NEW
by: Diana

When our identical twin girls were born, we decided to tell them apart by taking one of them (Emily) to have her ears pierced and leaving the other (Amy) without pierced ears. We therefore had Emily's ears pierced at four weeks old (up till then it ws very hard to tell them apart). Now we just say that Emily is the one wearing earrings (though we could say that Amy is the one without the earrings - but never do). The only problem is that Amy is now very envious of Emily because she wears earrings and wants to wear them too - Amy will have to wait till she is much older before she can have them done. This is a really good way to tell identical twin girls apart.

Twins

I have new born twin girls, and its really hard to tell them apart right now, but as days go on I find it a little easier. I dress the girls in different colors now {pink and purple} and that really helps. Once there old enough, I'm going to get there ears pierced. The girls also have different eyes so that helps {but only if there eyes are open}!! Nicole's eyes are blue, while Sammie's are green.

Baby A & Baby B
by: RC

My id girls are 13 mos, and we could tell them apart from day one after all the marker, bracelet, etc planning! I've noticed that with most twins I know Baby A has a longer face and Baby B has a slightly rounder face!!! This is the case with my girls--others have trouble sometimes, and we do mix them up if we aren't looking closely. But they have cute little uniqueness that you'll see in their laugh & cry (although hard to distinguish initially), in their gait, etc. One has a shy daintiness and the other is joyful and boisterous! Its the best, and you won't love one of them more than the other, its so cool!

Some relatives go by the back of their heads, some the length of their hair, some the slight diff in face or nose shape. mom and dad always know, but I've put them to bed in the wrong cribs more than once!

Identical twins
by: Christina

Congrats! Having twins is so much fun! It's a lot of hard work, but very rewarding! My identical twin girls arrived at 33 weeks this past March. Each girl had some sort of marking to tell them apart. One had a red spot on her eyelid, the other had a blemish on her forehead. We got their ears pierced with different colored earrings. They're 9 months old now, and it does help as their personalities change! Just label your pictures right away, before you forget whose who!

Identical boys due in May
by: Amberly

We found out that we were expecting twins September 22, 2009. We found out they were identical boys October 9,2009. They're due May 4, 2010 but the doctors will deliver towards the end of March due to medical resons. I plan to tell them apart by using a permanent marker & writing the initial on 1 foot of each. They're names are Clayton & Preston, so "C" & "P". I've discussed this with the docs & they're absolutely fine with it. It can also be traced as it wears off. I do have some matching outfits & you best believe that my family: mom, dad, & 3 big brothers will definately prank everyone!!! That's the beauty of monozygotic!!!

I'm in trouble one day
by: Rhonda

I have the most beautiful blond haired bright blue eyed identical girls. They are now 21 months old, and unless I spend a second or two really looking at their faces, I can get them mixed up. When they were babies I did paint their toes, and the second their doctor allowed me, the girls got their ears pierced with different colors. Some times I do enjoy "messing" with family members or the babysitter so I dress them alike, but most days they wear their "assigned" colors - Kate in pink (4 letters each) and Stella in purple (6 letters each.) It was scary at first - I was afraid to mix them up, but you will get to know your children, and it will be fine:)

Identical twins

I have identical twin girls, who are 8 months old. And they have bracelets one has pearls and the other has silver. And when we got their ears peirced with different studs. My girls were little when they were born and their bracelets did not fit, so we painted on babies toe with nail polish, I also did not dress them in the same color till they were like 1 month. You will be able to tell your identical babies apart, others may not but you will, They look a little different. CONGRATS on your double blessing

Telling Identicals Apart
by: Katie

I have identical boys. We dressed one of them in blue and the other in another color (usually green or brown) I never matched them so that wasn't an issue. I can tell them apart now (17 months) but when we're going to be in a large group, I'm sure to put my blue boy in blue so others always know.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
