Help with Twin Toddlers not sleeping through the night

by Gillian Kidd
(Gold Coast, Australia)

My 17month old twins girls share a bedroom. When one wakens during the night, she wakens her sister, then I have both awake and won't go back to sleep without a bottle. I am now finding myself up a few times during the night to feed them. The problem is, if only one wakens, and I try letting them cry (not giving them a bottle) they waken the other twin, plus my other two children in the house.... Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did they get their twins to sleep through???

Hi! I have 19 month old twin boys who also share a room. They have separate cribs, thought. We have a CD of lullabies we put on repeat through the night. We use a nightlight, so they don't awake scared. And we have a fan to create white noise. On top of all those things in the room, the boys take binkies & have *favorite* stuffed animals, so that when they wake up, they can find those items to comfort themselves back to sleep.
Recently one of my boys was waking up multiple times, so I decided when he awoke I would no longer pick him up. It was really hard at first, I would stand over his crib & rub his belly, but would NOT pick him up. Then it got to where I could come in & lay him down, lay on the floor for a bit till he fell asleep, and sneak back out. Now (for the most part) I can just go in and lay him back down and leave. Good luck! I know just what a nightmare it is when they take turns waking each other!
