raising twins

Hating the after- twins belly, but surviving the twin thing.

The leftovers of my pregnancies..

The leftovers of my pregnancies..

So I found out I was expecting identical twins in October 2008. Our daughter was 14 months old. I was freaking out a little (a lot!) but my husband was just excited because I was finally preggo again. Everything went well, the pregnancy was as easy as a twin pregnancy gets, although I was in a lot of physical pain by the end of it, my belly was massively stretched. I had a c-section scheduled at 36 weeks exactly, because they thought that baby B was 2lb heavier than baby A (this one was also breech). Our boys were born, weighing in at 6lbs and 6lbs 1oz.... so no discordance here, we assume that the ultrasound techy was having a bad day?

Anyway, I hate the way I look right now. I know I housed two little miracles, and that I'm only three months postpartum, but I'm only 22. I can't stand to think that I'll probably look icky forever? I love my babies and my two year old cutie. I wouldn't change them for anything. But gosh, I'd rather not have this jello-filled fannypack, like I sometimes call it! I hate the flap that hangs over my c-section scar. I don't mind the stretch marks, I mean they're only a thing on the surface of the skin. But the extra skin, I could completely do without. Maybe someday I'll afford a tummy-tuck.

But if it reassures any of you to-be-twin-moms out there, having twins and a two year old is definitely not as bad as I imagined it to be. If you set yourself a routine, and stick to it, things will go smoothly. My boys are three months old and been sleeping through the night for a month now. I sometimes even think they are easier to deal with than my two year old alone was at that age!! Best of luck to all you mommies out there, with your kids, your goals, and your saggy bellies. :)

There is hope! NEW

I have the EXACT same belly!! I recently went to my GP to get an evaluation of my ab muscles. He told me I had MAJOR DIASTASIS and it would be MEDICALLY NECESSARY to have abdominoplasty. In his words "You can't go on like this. Your back will be a wreck in a short period of time. Therefore insurance should cover it. I have an appt. with a Plastic Surgeon in a few weeks. I can't wait to see what my insurance co has to say. I'll fight them if they won't cover it.
Wish me luck!!

Saggy Belly NEW
by: Anonymous

I gave birth to twin girls who both weighed a little under 7lbs each at 37 weeks. I weighed 168 lbs right before I gave birth and post-delivery I lost all the weight immediately. Within the first week weigh-in, I had lost about 25lbs and the weight kept flying off. I now weigh 110lbs and am very satisfied with my weight. However, like you, three years later I still I have the saggy belly and outward belly button that was once an inny. I agree, the only solution would be a tummy tuck but I am fearful of going under the knife. On a positive note, my baby girls are both healthy and beautiful. They are my world.

It looks like my belly!
by: Jen

In ten years I had 5 children. The last was a set of identical twin girls. I never got my waist back or my tummy. I've never even been able too see my c-section scar because there is so much loose flesh. The way I look at it I have 5 beautiful kids to show for it. I earned every stretch mark, every dimple, every wrinkle and every flap of flesh. My hubby still finds me attractive so I find myself attractive. Maybe someday I'll be able to afford a tummy tuck. It's just not in the cards right now. Love your belly! You earned it!

I also Have this problem.
I have to say though just knowing that I am not the only one out there looking at the left over twin skin.
I have a boy 3yrs. 8.5pounds at birth and twins boy and girl 7.4 and 6.12 lbs at birth natural labor but still the pizza dough tummy.
What are you gonna do?
the more I loose the looser the skin. I would love some serect trick to getting it to tighten but Im not sure there is one? But thank you for sharing your pics they really do give me peace of mind to know Im not the only one.

My stomach looks EXACTLY like yours... baby boy #1 was 8 pounds, baby boy #2 was 8 lbs 1 oz.

Then I had twin boys via c-scetion @ 39 weeks: baby boy #3 was 8 lbs 5 oz and baby boy #4 was 7lbs 4 oz.

I had 4 boys in 5 years.

I was 192 lbs when I delivered my twin boys, waist size 50 inches. I am 5 ft 7 and weigh 155 lbs now.

LOVE my boys but hate my stomach :)

Wow, Is that my stomach?? i have two kids and I just had set of twins. Gained 75 lbs w twins. Both were 7 lbs each. Its now 3 months later and I only weigh 15 lbs more than pre-preg HOWEVER tummy is identical to yours.Gonna go the route of tummy tuck. I'm young too and don't want this to prevent me from feeling beautiful in swimwear, bedroom, etc.My husband thinks I am perfect but its about the way YOU feel as a woman. Feeling good about yourself and putting yourself first should be a priority for moms of any age. When momma is happy, everyone is happy. Its ok to feel upset about ur tummy, we all agree the kids are worth it, but we were women before we were moms.We still want to feel attractive.

I was 21 when I had my twin girls added to my family of 3 already. being 24 now, Like you, I LOVE having all my kids but absolutely hate the sagging skin. I have done everything possible (except a tummy tuck) to make it go away. I can feel abs underneath the extra skin and most of my stretch marks have faded nicely. I hope someday I can afford a tummy tuck too. Until then...

Thank you for sharing these pictures

Hello,
I was watching a british pragram called Miss Naked Beauty which celebrates the real, natural beauty of women. One of the contestants is a mum and she was saying that the part of her body she likes the less is her belly. And I got curious.
I haven't been pregnant yet, don't have any friends who have been and had no idea it could change a body this much. But there is absolutely nothing ugly about this. It represents one of the most amazing miracles of life. This should be celebrated! I just don't understand why we never get to see women as we really are. I can't believe that at 28 years old I had never seen the belly of a woman after pregnancy... and you are beautiful! I hope there will be a day where as women we will all walk out on the beach in bikinis shortly after giving birth, proud of the story that the marks on our belly tell!

I also have twins (girls) and a 2 year old boy at home. I look much like you do...after two months out. My twin girls were 8 lbs and 8 lbs 5 oz. Let's just say I was very stretched out! also have a jello filled tummy right now...it is sometimes hard to look at. However, my girls are great and I am so blessed.

I completely agree with you that the 2 year old is harder to take care of. The twins and I have our schedule and they are doing great...however the 2 year old is sooooo much work! (he is one active little boy)

However, things are great and we are one lucky family!

2 c sections and my body will never be the same
by: Twingles mom

I also have a 2 year old and twin 10 month old boys. I am definatley surviving the twin thing, staying organized and on a tight schedule is a must. I am working hard to try and lose the baby weight it is coming off slowly but my belly is still just like your pictures. I had a c section with my first and then again with the twins, I just don't believe it will ever be the same. As much as I get upset and hope that my old body would come back, when I look at my 3 little guys, my body is a small price to pay for the miracle they are and the happiness they bring to us each day. Stay positive, try to diet and exercise, but always remember your a beautiful person and brought beautiful babies into this world.

You are beautiful
by: Anonymous

Showing these pictures inspires me in so many ways. I am crying because I am happy to be here today. Loving my daughter and having the ability to walk. So many others wish they could be in our shoes. There are so many women that wish they could have children and cannot. Would take that post baby belly without even a second thought. I am happy because it takes a strong women to stand before the world and give so much sacrifice for another person. You wear your badge proudly because you are so beautiful.

OMGness!! I can't believe this. I look just like you...except I'm a lot darker...lol You bring joyful tears to my eyes. For a long time I felt I was the only one who looked & felt the way we do, but there are sooo many of us out there.
I was 22 when I had my daughter & I felt the exact same way. There is a non invasive procedure called laser skin tightening that is relatively less expensive than a tummy tuck. It's also a lot safer. I am working on saving enough money to have it done. I hope that you realize that you are beautiful no matter how your body has changed. I'm sure your hubby's affection for you hasn't changed so make that your strength until you can change it. I wish you well.

twin birth
by: Anonymous

I had twins they are 11 months old! Believe me my stomach got stretched to the max even after I put coca butter 5 times a day! Your skin only has so much elastin in it before the straie (stretch marks) appear. It is depressing every time I look at my belly.I am considering a tummy tuck in a year when they are a bit older.i am kind of scared to go under the knife :( But I feel your pain, pregnancy takes a toll on our bodies. I have lost quiet a bit of weight but the saggy skin wn't go anywhere. But besides our saggy bellies- God bless each of us mommies out there and our bodies! lol!

OMG.....I'm so glad to know that there are people who are in the same situation. I just had a c-section a month ago and my belly right now just looks HORRIBLE. I cried a lot during the first week thinking that I will never get my 'old body' back. My weight is back to almost pre-pregnancy weight, but I don't think the extra skin and the pouch above the incision will go away. Everyoone says I need think positively. My babies (boy-girl) are beautiful and very healthy. I am a happy mom.

by: Anonymous

yours looks much like mine did after giving birth by C-section. my stretch marks are fading fast, & the skin is now only a small pouch-like bulge beneath my bellybutton (which looks like it's frowning now!). For a while i had a front-butt going on, but two years have flown by, and my husband thinks my "baby oven" is beautiful. He still misses my pregnant belly sometimes. =) I'm sure no matter what he'll still love my body that made our children; patience & careful habits have helped me return to my normal weight & size. A bit of extra stomach skin is a small price for the exchange of healthy, precious children in my opinion.

I just wanted to comment on this page, you are very brave for adding pictures of yourself on here. My twin girls are 7 months old and my stomach looks JUST like the last picture on the bottom right. I am also 22 and FREAKING out about the excess skin! OMG, I hope someday here REALLY soon it goes away. I know I also housed two beautiful babies but what it does to your body is HORRIFYING and mothers who only have one and have a natural birth WILL NEVER understand what we are going through. Just wanted to say... It feels like its never going to go away.

Badge of Honor
by: Jessica

I know how you feel. I had my twins at 25 and turned 26 a few months later. I have stretch marks in places I never thought I would have them and I'm feeling you on the fanny-pack tummy. My babies are 5 months old and I've still got the belly going on. Luckily my hubby still thinks I'm beautiful. We'll just have to remind ourselves that one day we will have time to work out and focus on ourselves. But for now it is all about our double miracles!! Just think of the stretch marks and the tummy as a badge of honor.
