raising twins

frustrated with twin toddlers fighting

How do I teach my twins to Not hit each other. I do not believe in spanking or yelling (though I unfortunately have yelled and am very frustrated). I just have a really hard time with seeing them hit each other especially with objects. They are 21 months old. I have put one in the play pen with toys and books just to give them some space. I do not believe in "time out" or keeping them in a play pen when they are unhappy in it. So far, they like the few minutes of time away from the other twin, and it helps calm everyone down. But, I want to teach them not to hit (push, scratch etc.). How?

It goes with the job

Hi, You don't say whether your twins are boys or girls but as a mother of four grown up, respectable, happy, law-abiding citizen, successful, well-balanced sons, I would say that you won't bring them up without yelling at them ! Its part of the job of bringing up more than one lad ! Mine would fight & squabble when they were young but today they will go off to the pub together, & the eldest made the most fantastic Best Man at his brother's wedding. He carried the day ! I was proud ! You'll get there one day but you will need a few raised voices first. I used to be incredulous at the mothers of girls who would say to their daughters in a soft sweet voice " Oh, don't do that darling". It takes a different sort of woman to raise the next generation of men.
