Early Delivery With Twins?

by Kayla
(Alabama)

I am currently pregnant with twins. And have read everything I can get my hands on. What I can't find is, Are all twins born before 40 wks? I have two older children that where born at 39wks 1day and 40 wks. They where both c-section. So should I expect these twin babies to be delivered around 37 wks.? I'm really worried. I have been very sick and my weight has went up and down a lot. Mostly down so now i'm worried that they will be small if they are born a few weeks early? Sorry if I ramble. Its just a huge concern for me. Thanks!

Identical twins
by: Anonymous

I had my identical twin girls at 36+3 weeks. I was scheduled to have my c-section at 37 weeks, but the date got moved up because of discordinant growth. They were 5lbs 1oz and 4lbs 8oz. No NICU time.

As to how many weeks you will deliver, that's all individual. After 28 weeks, I started contracting all the time and was put on oral terb every 4 hours to try to stop them. I went into PTL 3 times. My OB said if i went into labor after 34 weeks she wouldn't try to stop it and let me deliver.

i am grateful to this medium for assisting those who are pregnant of twins and even those that already have them.I was delivered of my girl/boy twins on the 5th january 2010 at the 39th week minus a day, being my 4th pregnancy. The first one was a breech with buttocks presentation and the boy was head down, I had them naturally with 5 minutes interval!

37 Weeks
by: Sara

I was induced at 37 weeks. My doctor wouldn't let me go any further than that. I had to have an emergency c-section, because "B"'s heart rate dropped and they were concerned of oxygen to the brains of both my boys. I had fraternal boys. Thier oxygen levels came right back after delivery. They both went home with me 3 days later. They were in the NICU for those 3 days for monitoring. "A" was 6lbs 9 oz, "B" was 5lbs 1oz. At thier 2 month "A" was 10lbs 10oz and "B" was 9lbs 2oz. They have been growing like weeds. I gained over 50lbs with my boys. I lost about 30 in the 1st 6 weeks.

Good luck
by: Nathaly

It depends on the individual. I had boy/girl twins. My twins were born at 39 weeks via C-section (because twin A was breech) and I was induced. They were each 7 Lbs and 12 ounces. I WAS HUGE!!! They were healthy (Thank God)and we were all sent home 4 days later. About the eating, I ate very little because my babies would only allow me to eat a little (lol, I dont know why but I would get full very quickly). I lost 10 pounds at first, throwing up everything I ate. I gained about 20 pounds throughout the whole pregnancy with my belly!! If you do what is neccessary, you'll be okay!! Good luck with those two bundle of joys!!

Twins born early
by: Anonymous

I have faternal twin boys that were born at 36 weeks and 5 days. I had to have an emergency c-section because one of my babies was showing decreased blood low to the brain. I was scheduled for a c-section on December 21st and had them on December 10th. They had to spend 5 days in the NICU and came home from the hospital 2 days after I did. My doctor said tey don't like you to go past 37 weeks because of the risk of still birth so you will probably have them at that time. I had my 5 year old at 37 weeks and he came home from the hospital with me. They had to monitor one of them because he had swallowed amniotic fluid when he was born.

ENSURE

My boys were born at 35 weeks and did spend two weeks in NICU they are healthy happy one year olds. I would check in to drinking Ensure with protein if your weight is down. I had no appetite most of my pregnancy and drank 3 ensures a day at least that way I got nutrients that I desperately needed. Many forums will talk about drinking ensure and even some books that I have read have info on it.

Doctor
by: Shelly Cunningham

My doctor would not schedule my c-section until 39 weeks. I went into natural labor at 37 weeks and she did the c-section because my body was obviously ready. She wanted to keep them cooking as long as possible. Don't worry about the babies' weights. As long as you eat healthy, take your prenatal vitamins and do everything you can to stay pregnant as long as possible, they will do well. I only gained 25 pounds total & my boys were 6lbs.13oz. and 4lbs.6oz.

Not always.

This is a great video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E-wULAaD50

Mine were born at 36w, but I had complete placenta previa and a couple of bleeding episodes. I know many people who went to 38+ weeks with twins.
