Destry and Chris's Twin Story

Chris and Destry

In October of 2009 my husband and I went to a Zac Brown Concert which was great. We have been through a lot of ups and downs in the last 7 years. Both of were active duty military and constantly coming and going. We lived in England for 3 years together and at least 1/2 of that either he or I was in the desert or somewhere else for military duty. We got married REALLY fast (met and got married within 3 weeks) and everyone had their doubts. But, we always knew there was just something that drew us together and we have always had a deeper connection that I just can't explain.

My husband's brother was born with a really serious case of spina bifida. He has been paralyzed from the waist down since birth. Because of his brothers condition and the effect that it has had on his quality of life and everyone around him (not saying that everyone is not glad he is here with us, we very much are, just it is tough on him with kids picking on him at school and his dad had to quit work to stay home and take care of him full time so money has been tight), it made my husband very nervous about having children.

Well, after years of me subtly and not so subtly bringing it up he finally decided at the Zac Brown concert that "there is just something missing" So we started trying for A baby. Once again, I was in and out of town for work and December was the first month I was home for the whole month. We went to Michigan for Christmas and found out in January we were expecting. I have had no morning sickness or any other pregnancy symptoms other than the occasional hip pain. At 8 weeks we went in for our first ultrasound and found out we were having twins! I almost fell off the table...not even joking. Twins do not run in my family!!! How can there even be two in there??? But everyone always told us because we waited so long and Chris was so apprehensive that we would have twins. He wanted to call them Karma 1 and 2. Well now that we are finally over the twin shock we have been putting our nose to the grind stone and getting all the baby stuff we need. Man, I don't think either one of us knew just how expensive twins was going to be. But thanks to family and craigslist and DIY projects we have been able to not spend a fortune.

We found out on the 19 of April that we are having two little boys and are VERY excited. They are expected to be here 7 September and our lives will never be the same. I can't wait!!!

OOH and just to make things even more coincidental 3 other cousins are pregnant and expecting babies within two weeks of each other. One couple has been trying for years which is great. Guess you knew what we were all doing for Christmas! We plan on getting all the cousins to take belly pictures and photoshop them together since we’re all in different states now. Then dress all the babies up like elves for Christmas this year. 5 babies all in the same month. LOL our parents have been bugging us for years now they’re getting all these babies in one shot!

LOL yes. I was CONVINCED I was getting at least one girl. I went to a garage sale and bought a box of girl clothes and a white crib. I thought that because I didn't have any symptoms the babies (boy/girl) were canceling each other out. Seriously I have just now at 22 weeks started feeling pregnant. Well needless to say I was suprised again when they said it was two boys. Ill have to get extra manly bedding for the white crib.

I enjoyed reading your story, and am so happy for you! I have thoroughly enjoyed having twin boys, although when I was on the table waiting to find out what I was having, I was sure there was AT LEAST one girl in there!
But I wouldn't trade those boys in for pink ribbons & lace for any price! Enjoy the journey!
