Daycare for twins

by Patty
(Lansing, Michigan)

I am 22 weeks pregnant with twin boys, I am looking for tips on how to pick a good daycare for 2 babies. I find myself getting stressed out just thinking about them having to go to daycare.

day care and twins
by: Anonymous

Hi there, jsut wanted to drop a line with a few of the tips i learnt along the way.

- I found it very difficult to get a position with day care due to requiring two spots at once. (high demand centre)

- Request every day on your wait list even if you only need say mon or tues, that way you can at least be offered a position quicker.

- Went with family day care (home based), carer was previously employed by day care centre but had 5 kids of her own so knew a thing or two about kids / babies.

Interview family day carer/child care centre, you have to feel comfortable with them.

And if you go family day care always look for fresh fruit, sounds funny but you know they're good if they keep fresh fruit in the house!

Your babies are worth the investigating but try not to stress, other options include advertising for a nanny to care for your kiddies in your own home or share an au-pair (is that how you spell it?)
GOOD LUCK

Thanks

Thank you for all your advice, if anyone knows of a GOOD in home daycare in the Lansing Michigan area, please feel free to share. We are new to the area so we don't know a lot of people around here to ask around. Thanks again!

Daycare for twins
by: Michelle

I'm a licensed HOME child care provider and have been for about 6 years now. As a provider and parent I would look at both options ( home and center). Home based care offers more flexibility and a closer connection with your babies care giver. However you must find some you trust, low ratio, and a clean house. I would look for someone who’s been in the business for a few years at least. Also look for someone with experience with babies.....aka MOMS. You really should look for someone who will just keep your two infants...and of course older toddlers or preschoolers and no other babies or someone who just keeps babies.

The good thing about some centers is they have cameras (sometimes) but this seems to be an issue of nit picking for some parents. At centers you will have various people handling your child. You will surely pay ALOT more. Your baby will be surrounded by people dealing with a lot of other kids so naturally your child will come home with a lot more colds and what not. But someone will always be monitoring what it is they are doing.....or at least I would like to think... haha

I personally put my oldest in preschool at a center when he was 3. I think centers are Amazing for fun time...but personally would put my child at a home base daycare until 2 or talking. The key is finding that person you trust and building a great relationship with them so you both know the expectations. Like the other gal stated.....do check references and with the state.

However, I currently don't work due to my pregnancy. Not sure when or if I will start back in on that now that I will have two of my own at home.

Good Luck!

Questions, questions....
by: Brenda

You want to ask lots of questions. You want to check into the state licensing board to find whatever daycare you choose hasnt had any problems in the past. Ask other moms around your neighbohood...they are usually the best advice givers when it comes to their kids care. You want a center or person who has an open door policy. A place where you can show up unanounced whenever you want! Take a tour of the place, several times. See how the people are interacting with the other kids and do the kids seem happy.

These are your little ones. Do not be shy or affraid to ask questions. Good luck in the hunt!
