Our twin blessings

Our twin blessings

Born at 35 weeks early! Hunter Kaikoa and Maddox Waika couldn't have made a better entrance. Hunter baby A arrived at 5:28am on december 27, 2009. Maddox baby B arrived at 5:39am on december 27, 2009. Just 11 minutes.

I didn't know I was pregnant; My mother suggested that I check up due to my miss periods. I was always irregular so it wasn't a red flag. I was on the shot and up to date. Anyhow, I decided to see my gyno and she said I was already 12 weeks pregos. Being so far along she suggested I do an ultrasound prior to seeing an OB.

As I arrived at the office to do my ultrasound I ran into a lot of people that my family knew. I was trying to keep a secret because I didn't want anyone knowing until I knew the full details. As I was glancing over the monitor thinking about what I was going to tell my family. The ultrasound person asked if we had twins in our family. I wasn't really paying attention but I answered with "yeah, but far way". She said "Congratulations you're having twins!" and I said "Sh^t'. She said that's the first; usually they're excited. Don't get me wrong I was just in shock and I couldn't stop thinking of 25 years old with 5 kids.

It wasn't a hard twin pregnancy I had only gained 11 lbs the entire time. The only thing that was different from my other pregnancies were my frequent checkups. The twins were identical due to having seperate sacs and one placenta.

I live with my grandparents whom I take care of. My grandmother and I stayed home while the men of the house worked. She was the just the best person always putting others first. Every morning around 5am she would ask if I was OK and offer to help in anyway. We both knew that someday she wouldn't be there but she only had athritis. So I thought.

On December 23, 2009 my grandparents 48th anniversary; we were planning on going out for dinner.
It was the day before xmas eve so my grandma decided to go to costco to pickup food for the xmas eve dinner. She got home at 3pm and we had to leave at 3:15pm for my sons T-Ball game. Just as we left she said we'll see you guys soon I'm gonna wait for grandpa and we're gonna come and watch Ryder play. that was that. We left and about 10 minutes later I realized I forgot my camera; so we turned around. When I went into the house my grandma was rubbing ice on her head saying that it was soar. I just watch helpless cause I did'nt know what to do. My husband came in the house to watch her while I got my toddlers situated in the car. When I got back she started slurring. I thought omg shes gonna bite her tongue. so I told my husband to watch her. Then within minutes she wasn't really responding. Then she told us to call 911. We did. As the fireman left our home they said that it seems like she has a virus or something sudden cause all her vidals were strong. Well that wasn't the case. My grandfather and brother were in so much shock that they didn't understand the DR. She had an blood vessel in her brain pop and it was bleeding severely. My husband went with her on the air ambulance to an other island while I cried helplessly. Being that I was 34 weeks pregnant it wasn't possible for me to travel.

So there I was 34 weeks pregnant with twins, 3 toddlers (ages 5, 3, & 2), and no one home to help. I just wanted to give birth to be by her side. Thankfully it didn't happen that quick. My husband arrived back on xmas day in time for our kids to celebrate their xmas. We didn't want what was going on affect their holiday. Deep down inside I was already torn. My grandmother just had surgery and the Dr. couldn't get to us right away. We had to wait for an answer.

The day after xmas feeling nothing but the urge to pee. The kids had gotten by xmas but didn't want to play cause al they wanted was their tutu. To get our minds off of things I decided it would be best for us to get out of the house. We went to checkout the after xmas sales. Got home at about 3pm and got the kids settled. I went on the computer while my husband stayed outside with the kids and cleaned car.

Everything seemed fine until I had to pee again. Being that I had other pregnancies and the sign of labor started when my water breaks I know when that is. It was happening again. I just pee'd got up and water started trinkling. then more and more came out. So I called my husband calmly. We got our things together and called my 18 year old sister to watch our kids over night since it was 7pm. By the time my sister got their it was 7:45pm. So we left and 15 minute later I realixed we forgot the camera! I made my husband turn around... He wasn't very happy about that. We arrived at the hospital at around 8:30pm. The Dr. suggested I give birth on another island because they didn't have a NICU. I was just 35 weeks. So by the time I reached the other hospital it was already 1:30 and my contractions started to come back to back! when they checked me I was 6 cent. dilated and my back was killing me. I asked for an epidural and they gave it. bad idea the drugs was sooo good I didn't realize I could push until it wore off. The nurse suggested that we try pushing at 5:20am and I told her get the Dr's cause I'm a quickie! sure enough. The first push happened to be the starter. Hunters head was out and by the second push he came flying out into the DR's arms. With amaze the Dr's told me to stop.we waited and they said don't push hard! How do you do that. Pushing hard was easier then lightly. okay I am very blessed. Baby B try'd coming out hands first but the Dr's were able to push it out of the way. He came out 1st push.
The hospital staff were so amazed by the senario hey forget to get blood from the cord blood. The next day I'm up and walking babies were perfectly fine and I was happy to be near my grandmas hospital. we prep for release the following day. I got to see my grams after all! she didn't look the same anymore with all the tubes and stuff.

We got back home the day before new years eve. the next day we needed to go to wal mart to pickup some much needed baby stuff. I begged the older kids to come but they wanted to stay and help watch the twins. While shopping I got a startling phone call from my mom stating to meet her at the ER cause Jaida my oldest got bit by a dog on her lip!... Sooo bad plastic surgery had to be down. overwhelmed i rushed home to pickup the twins. Low and behold the next day my husband and I were going to fly out to be with my family to meet with the DR.'s about my Grandma. it wasn't good at all.

New years day. A decision was made to take out everything from her. She lived for about 30 minutes and that was it. I just lost my best friend, my grandmother, and my world.

In the end; life is too short! cherish every moment like its your last. remember the good times always.\\

rest in peace Dad and Grandma! We love and miss you guys.
