Cribs for Twins

Planning ahead is important when it comes to purchasing cribs for twins.

There's nothing worse that having your cribs delivered only to find out and they won't fit in the twin nursery the way you'd planned.

You'll want to decide how many cribs you'll want initially. Twin parents often will just use one crib to start, and purchase a Crib Spacer - Crib Divider cribs for twins divider for the babies to be sleeping separate, yet together at the same time.
The divider will prevent flailing arms and legs from disturbing the rest of the other twin baby. Occasionally though, the matching crib becomes unavailable or discontinued at a later date, so if having two matching cribs is important to you, you may wish to purchase your cribs for your twins at the same time.

**You'll want to be sure to ask the store about whether they have a discount for purchasing more than one at a time.**

If having enough space in the twin nursery is a problem, consider putting one or both of the dressers in the closet. This will free up a lot of room for the cribs for twins. Take the time to measure out both the cribs and the room. You may find it easier to place the cribs in an 'L' shape. Other rooms allow for one crib along each side. See below for important crib safety considerations.

We've searched online and found some of the best cribs on the market, full size, round, mini - and one of the best choices, we think, is a convertible crib that will grow with your twins and become a toddler bed when needed. Cribs for Twins - safety considerations

Whether you are shopping for new cribs for twins, or gently used, you'll want to keep important safety factors in mind - especially with older cribs.
  • *Check the space between the slats to ensure the gap is equal or less than 2-3/8 of an inch and that no slats are loose or missing.

  • *Raise and lower the mattress and railings to see that everything is functioning as it should. You don't want any surprises later.

  • *Make sure the cribs for twins are placed away from any dangling cords from blinds as they pose a strangulation hazard.

  • *Ensure the mattress fits tightly into the crib with no gaps or shifting where a baby could get stuck.

  • *Restrict the use of fluffy stuffed animals and additional bedding and pillows while your twins are young as they can pose a SIDS risk.
