I'm wondering about the cost of delivering my twins... What should I expect to pay?

Canadians don't pay
by: Anonymous

Not to sound rude, but Canadians don't pay to have children regardless of how long they are in hospital for. I find it shocking that the USA charges families to bring their babies into the world. I'm blown away by the numbers and feeling blessed to live in a country that doesn't bankrupt people just to have proper care. Good luck!

Don't drive yourself crazy with worry...

Nothing is predictable with the delivery of your twins. You can't predict if NICU will be necessary or how the delivery will turn out or when they will come (early or full term). Because of that, you can't really predict your costs. I was in the hospital for 2 1/2 weeks before my twins were born because Baby B's heart rate was dipping a little here and there. They were born one day shy of 35 weeks and spent 2 1/2 weeks in the NICU. The total cost for my hospital stay and theirs was around 180,000. Luckily, our insurance paid for everything but our deductibles. Just brace yourself for the ride and remember to not drive yourself crazy with worry. One day you will look back on it and feel sad that its all over!

hospital bills
by: keri ventura

i had major complications after my c-section and one twin in the nicu for 12 days. My hospital bill alone was 71,000.00 and my sons nicu bill was 42,000.00 my other son was in the regular care nursery and that cost 15,000.00 so all in all my bills came to roughly 128,000.00 thankfully insurance will cover 80% im still waiting for a final bill once the insurance has paid their portion! good luck to all of you:)

I just got the bills for our twin boys and it was just over 11,000 just for them. I am waiting on my insurance to see what portion they are going to pay. I had to have a c-section and that was over 6,000 but some was covered by my insurance. Unfortunately just about everything is double and sometimes that insurance companies give you greif about it. The best thing to do is talk to the financial people at your doctors and the hospital and see if there are any programs that help you pay or get on a premptive payment plan.

$$$$$
by: Kristin

Most insurance should cover 80% of the delivery. We had a scheduled c-section at 38+2 weeks and my hospital stay plus our girls stay (no NICU time) was about $18,000 before insurance, after insurance it was a little over a $1,000 I think. My OB had us on a payment plan for my routine OB care and then we were also charged for each U/S x 2, which we had about 12 U/S's. The girls pediatrician also charged us x2 for every time they were checked in the hopsital which was once a day and we stayed 4 days. They billed us for that after we left the hospital.
