Breastfeeding twins - does it hurt?

by Kayla
(Montana)

My twin babies are a boy and a girl, are due soon and my sister said breasfeeding is scary and kids suck on your nipples hard? I am 22 and these types of comments really scare me. My husband says to worry about it when it comes but I can't really do that. will someone please explain?

thanks both. I am put more at ease now. I am looking forward to having my babies. Right now the joy of my life is laying in bed with my feet propped up. From what I have heard that will change!! :) Congrats to both of you as well. And thanks for the advice again.

breatfeeding twins
by: Anonymous

Oh Congrats on the twins. I am a mom of 4 (under the age of 3) and I just had my twins 6 months ago. I can tell you its one of the best adventures I have ever been on and I am loving every minute of it! I am currently nursing my twins (as I did with my first two which are not twins) With my oldest there was no pain But, with my 2nd and the twins it did hurts for a few seconds when they first latched on, and this lasted for the first two weeks. But its nothing to be scared of; it not a heart stoping pain... Good luck and enjoy....

Breast feeding

Congratulations on your twin pregnancy! I was able to exclusively nurse our twins (no supplementing with formula) for 13 months and to answer your question, it didn't hurt for me. I was told to express milk on my nipples after I fed them (it won't be hard once your milk supply comes in) to help if you get sore or cracked nipples. It didn't happen to me, and I know a lot of women that it didn't happen to as well. In the beginning, your babies won't be able to suck hard enough to hurt you and by the time they can you will be used to the feeling and it won't hurt.
