After 16 weeks can twins switch positions?

by Amber
(Wisconsin)

We went in for our 16 weeks appointment and found out we are having girl and boy twins! The boy is positioned right about my pants line and the girl is right above him closer to my bra line. My question is do they always stay in that position or can they switch or go from horizontal like they are now to vertical??? Just curious!!

Twins switching positions
by: Destry

Well let me revise my comment. I just heard their heart beats and they are stacked again. SO I guess they move around where they want to. Both were head down side by side last ultrasound and now baby B is feet down and stacked on top of baby A.

Can twins switch posions
by: Destry

Short answer, yes. My two boys were stacked like that till about 20 weeks then they moved to left side/right side. I think there is only so long they ycan stay stacked like that, then it gets squished for them. They have more room to stretch out into your hip and ribs when they are side by side. I think too its easier for them to play in there, which mine seem to do every morning at around 500 or so.
