raising twins

40 1/2 week gestation with twins - belly after 6 months

by Mum to twins and 4 yo
(England)

I went 40 and a half weeks pregnant with twins - think I would have gone on to 42 weeks if hadn't been induced due to pre-eclampsia! I put on 2/3 of my body weight - 6 and a half stone - 2-3 stone was water weight and all same off in the first month. The rest I haven't lost yet, a lot of it is muscle but of course a lot is also fat stores for breast feeding.

I exercised throughout my pregnancy - weights and swimming and walking (under the supervision of my local gym instructor before you worry!) I got stretch marks at 35 weeks and could feel my skin ripping! Also used all oils and creams i could find for pregnancy and ate well so i did try but unavoidable...

For the last 5 1/2 months - because I breastfeed and have an older child, I haven't be able to gym or swim, but I try to walk 1-2 hours a day when I can at fast pace and when one is in a sling I do some squats and even triceps dips! I also do 5 minutes stretches throughout the day of occasional pilates and stretching. I also do one to two exercise classes with babies in a pushchair - I say all this because if you are pregnant with twins, it's best to be prepared - I'm glad I've worked this hard to stay fit as I needed to be to look after three children.

Now I have started to use No More Stretch Marks and I think (you may not) that the marks faded really well! Very impressed with Mama Mio creams.. I also belly bind - but not done as religiously as I should up until last week... I did for the first 6 weeks but not enough with twins to get the skin back to the muscle.

At 6 months I still have twin skin, and probably always will - but I am confident that when I have more time and can do all my crunches and pilates ab work that it'll get a lot better.. come on bikini!
