raising twins

4 kids under 4

by Brittany

I have a 3 year old girl and an 8 month old boy, both born by c-section. After my son was born, I didn't start taking birth control immediately. When I started feeling nauseous at Christmas, I suspected a pregnancy. When I had an ultrasound in January and the technician told me there were twins, I was SHOCKED!

I am now 5 months pregnant (both twin babies are growing on target and doing well). My doctor said I am a high-risk mother and will need special attention as time goes on. He has already told me to 'take it easy,' which could mean bed rest next month.

I already feel so big and uncomfortable. What is 7 months going to feel like? I am worried about delivering early and the health of the babies...I live in a 3rd world country! My husband feels that traveling home is unnecessary and too expensive, but I feel that there is no other option. There is only a small window left where I can travel, so I am not so sure if it will happen. Needless to say, I am scared and want the best care for both the babies and myself! Praying I last till 37 weeks...

Please take several deep breaths. I think you should really sit down and talk with your husband, and explain how you are feeling. If you feel you need to travel home, then that is what you should do. Listen to yourself and your body. Relax. I know it can be very difficult with little ones around. I have 4 myself (4,3, 18 mo. twins) It was difficult at times, don't worry about the little things like a clean house or dishes in the sink. Just focus on one day at a time. Get plenty of rest, even if its just 5 minutes here and there during the day. Eat good too. Not sure if you can enlist friends/ family, or if your financial situation allows hire extra help even if its one day a week, for cleaning. I was able to make it to 36wks and 4 days. The only extra help I had was Daddy would completely take over on his days of or when he got home from work, and let me put my feet up, or rest in bed.
